I visited Fukui-sensei yesterday during classes, and she asked me why I didn’t take her 2nd year Japanese course. I told her my parents won’t let me in Japanese, though I’m not sure if I said it right. She asked why, and I answered because my parents hate Japanese people and the language — I used 大きらい (daikirai), which was slightly exaggerated, きらい (kirai) would probably have been enough. She was shocked. Kozai-san, my lab TA from last year, was also there and she was surprised too, but it was incomparable to Fukui-sensei’s shock and slight sadness on her face. She asked whether it was due to the history, and I answered yes. I told her I wanted to read the 2nd year textbook. I miss being in her class. She looked a lot thinner than before the summer.
