Awhile back, while going through some Johnny’s Junior names with a friend, I noticed that Nakajima Yuuto (Japanese wiki) and Nakashima Mika (Japanese wiki) have the same last name, 中島. I knew from before that every Kanji has different pronunciations, but did not realize at the time that there could be different pronunciations of Kanji when it’s used in names. Now that I’ve seen the first couple of episodes of Oishii Puropoozu, and watching Ookawachi (大河内) and Ookouchi (大河内) converse about the homonyms in their respected last names, I’ve realized that the same last names in Japanese, which are pronounced the same in Chinese, can be read different ways in names too. Japanese sure is weird…
